FAQ

Learn about library resources and services available for JSCC and DECHS faculty.

How do I log in to the library's resources using JSCC wifi or from off campus?

You may use either the long barcode on the back of your JSCC ID card, or your JSCC email and password.

Can I place items on reserve?

Yes, you can place extra textbook copies, DVDs, journals, or other items on reserve at the library reference desk. If you have a circulation preference (in-house use only, 2-hour loan periods, overnight borrowing, etc.), just let us know.

May I upload a journal article or book chapter to my online course?

Sharing a copy of a periodical article, book chapter, or other document with your whole class is typically a violation of copyright, unless:

  • the item is in the public domain;
  • or, you have the express consent of the copyright holder.

If the document is available through a library database (see list), share the link to that record with your students. Ask a librarian to help you find a link that will work on and off campus.

If the document isn't available through any of our databases, consider placing a copy on reserve in the library. Alternatively, we can provide digital or print article copies to students who place interlibrary loan requests.

If I want my students to watch a movie, should I link to a copy on YouTube?

We don't recommend that you share content that may be in violation of copyright. Please contact us to discuss options for providing access to videos.

Do you have handouts I can share with my classes?

Yes! We have handouts about library databases, search strategies, the catalog, citing sources, and more. We'd be happy to provide or prepare one that suits your needs.

Can you buy this (book/DVD/audiobook/other item)?

Most likely yes. Use the purchase suggestion form or e-mail us.

I want my students to use a database the library doesn't offer. Can you help?

Yes. Get in touch and we'll look into setting up a trial. Some databases are cost-prohibitive, but please let us know what you need so we can evaluate our options.

Should I let the library staff know if I'm giving a research assignment to my class?

Please do. It's enormously helpful to know what students are working on. (It's even better if you can share copies of the directions students receive.)

How do I cite AI?
